Wow, this book was NOT quite appropriate for my son who picked it out but he’s tended to gravitate to the 900’s in our new library. Even though it wasn’t quite appropriate, he was captured by this girl’s diary, learning about Caesar getting murdered, Cleopatra’s brother-husbands dying questionable deaths, love affairs and babies, and many more interesting topics that seemed to lead us to many discussions.

Aimed at younger readers this book explores Cleopatra's life through the eyes of her servant. It's beautifully illustrated and covers all the main points. Worth picking up if you want to educate that young history nerd in your life.

As I've said before, I haven't read the book in ages, so my memory could be making up a few details. If those three scenes are completely accurate, I would be very surprised.

It's mostly just Cleopatra trying to train herself to become a good queen. We get a little bit of romance between Cleopatra and Marc Antony and a side romance between Cleopatra's servant Neva and her guard Puzo but neither of these things go anywhere or do anything.
